RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – With COVID-19 being declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, we are seeing restricted travel, an NBA games suspension, Disney Parks closed, and a long list of annual public events canceled and the list is only expected to get longer.

Local school districts canceled school-related travel, Thursday, amid coronavirus concerns.

We are seeing coronavirus reported cases across the U.S.

However, it is important to note that health officials say there are no cases currently in the Rio Grande Valley.

Brownsville ISD, McAllen ISD, and Edinburg CISD announced that it was halting all travel plans for its students and staff outside of the region one area, as the fear of becoming ill with the virus during travel grows.

Edinburg CISD also cancelled all district-sponsored events as well.

Los Fresnos CISD suspended all athletic events and some student travel.

The district stated that this was an extra precaution they are taking to keep students and staff safe.
