MCALLEN — To provide nutritious meals for children, the McAllen Independent School District will distribute meals to all children at 22 sites across the city throughout the summer.
The program will begin on Friday, May 29, and run through July 31.
The 22 sites will include four Grab and Go sites plus 18 bus routes into neighborhoods as part of the Meals on Wheels program.
Meals will be available between 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at all sites.
The meal bundles will include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Additionally, children will also receive bundles that include snacks for Saturday and Sunday on Fridays.
A child does not need to attend McAllen ISD to recieve a meal, however, the child must be present with a student ID or birth certificate to receive the meal.
At Meals on Wheels locations, families should form a line and remain at least six-feet apart from others. Families can also remain in their vehicles.
The list of food distribution sites can be found here.
Since March 23, McAllen ISD has served more than 514,000 meals to children. It is projecting to deliver approximately 950,000 more meals this summer.
