The McAllen Independent School District (ISD) activated Stage 3 of action regarding coronavirus at a meeting held Monday.
Stage 3 states all teachers and students will work from home, while other employees still report to work, said a release.
At the meeting, officials said this would be in effect until April 3.
“I immediately wanted to move into Stage 3, so the community can knowingly start to prepare, so the staff could understand that they’re gonna be staying home and that everybody understands it’s gonna take a team effort to do social distancing and that we take that very seriously. Because you’re looking at over 24,000 individuals that will be able to remove themselves from being crowded areas,” said McAllen ISD Superintendent.
According to a release from the district, there are four stages of action in place for the situation:
- Stage 1: Standard operational procedures with intensified sanitizing protocols; all students and staff report to school.
- Stage 2: Parent Choice School Attendance Plan (PCSAP): All staff report to work. Parents have the choice to send children to school or keep them at home without penalty.
- Stage 3: All teachers and all students stay at home. Other employees report to work.
- Stage 4: All students and all staff stay home.
Officials activated Stage 2 last week.
