The McAllen Public Utility (MPU) is assuring the public that tap water is safe for cooking, washing, bathing and drinking.

“Our MPU water is the same healthy water that we have been delivering to our customers since before the COVID-19 crisis began,” said Mark Vega, MPU general manager in the release. “In fact, during this time, it is more important than ever to turn to your public utility system, instead of creating panic and chaos at our grocery retail stores by stockpiling bottled water.”

Officials say the water is treated through a rigorous and effective process that makes it safe and clean to use.

The MPU emphasizes the water is safe for everyone to drink.
