The Cameron County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify the body of a man who was found dead Sunday on South Padre Island.
At about 1 p.m. Sunday, the captain of a sightseeing tour boat called local law enforcement after discovering the body about six miles north of the South Padre Island Convention Centre, according to information provided by Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio.
The body was later retrieved from the water by deputies and South Padre Island police.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the body had been in the water for about five to six days.
The man, who has not been identified, was described as being 20 to 30 year old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, about 160 pounds and was wearing a black shirt and purple pants. Lucio also said the man had a tattoo on his right arm that read “Aurora.”
A justice of the peace ordered an autopsy to determine cause of death. Authorities do not suspect foul play was a factor in the man’s death, Lucio said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office at (956) 554-6700.
