The man charged in connection with the death of a Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Communications Officer was sentenced on Thursday.
The crash occurred in December 2018 on Highway 281 in Edinburg when Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Communication Officer Sandra Coronado was on her way to work in Edinburg.
Orlando Zuniga Rodriguez was sentenced to 20 years which the victim’s mother said is not enough.
“She did not deserve what happened to her, these people need to be given more years, not just max of 20 years,” said Coronado’s mom.
He will get credit for 417 days, which he has already spent in custody.
Rodriguez pleaded guilty to one count of intoxication manslaughter on Monday.
