HARLINGEN, Texas – An auto-pedestrian crash in Harlingen leaves a 5-year-old child dead and a 20-year-old in the hospital. The alleged driver is behind bars and has been charged.
42-year-old Jose Ricardo Trujillo is accused of hitting and killing 5-year old Angelina Huerta and injuring 20-year-old Leslie Cassie Huerta when he ran into them at the intersection of Stuart Place Road and Interstate 2 Westbound Frontage Road in Harlingen.
Harlingen Police say Trujillo, left Angelina Huerta and Leslie Cassie Huerta for dead. Witnesses say the victims were selling news papers when they were hit. Trujillo fled the scene in a grey 2012 Hyundai Elantra four door vehicle.
Primera Police tracked down the vehicle and Trujillo at his residence in Primera. This morning, less than 24 hours, Angelina Huerta died from her injuries. Harlingen Police are charging Trujillo with two felonies. One for Angelina Huerta and another for Leslie Cassie Huerta.
Currently Leslie Cassie Huerta’s condition is not know, but she is being treated at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
Trujillo’s bond has been set at $350,000 for both charges.
