Man charged after stealing 12 packs of beer

Weslaco (Texas) – A man is behind bars after stealing 12 packs of beer from a food market in rural Weslaco.

According to a release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office, officers responded to the B&M food mart located on the 7000 Block of FM 1015 on Monday at 3:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, a sheriff’s deputy met with the store owner who reported a burglary and damages to the front door of the store.

After reviewing the video surveillance footage, officials learned that a small minivan had reversed into the store causing the damages to the front door. The driver was then seen exiting the car, entering the store and driving away with 12 packs of beer.

A records search confirmed the vehicle was stolen from the city of San Juan. The San Juan police department identified the suspect to the vehicle theft as Jose Chavez Jr, according to the release.

Chavez was arrested and charged with burglary of building, a state jail felony.

The Sheriff’s office urges the public to report any suspicious activities to call at 956-383-8114.
