RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (KVEO) — A man was arrested after assaulting Border Patrol agent on Thursday.
Customs and Border Protection says Rio Grande City Border Patrol agents saw several people carrying bundles of drugs emerge from some brush near the U.S. riverbank.
Shortly after, Border Patrol agents seized five bundles of marijuana and apprehended two men in connection with the drugs, near Rio Grande City, Texas.
During the arrest, CBP says one of the men became combative and attempted to tackle the arresting agent and take him to the ground. The agent was able to recover and arrest the man anyway.
The five bundles of marijuana weighed 347 lbs. and have an estimated value of $277,600, according to CBP.
Both men will be processed accordingly.
In a separate incident at the Javier Vega, Jr. Checkpoint, Border Patrol agents found 450 Xanax pills and a loaded gun inside a truck during an inspection. The case was referred to local authorities for investigation.
