A man accused of stabbing his girlfriend is heading to a state mental hospital as a judge ruled him incompetent.

Angel Bolanos Vasquez was supposed to start his jury trial on Monday.

He is accused of stabbing his 55-year-old girlfriend Rita Vazquez in January 2017 at the La Mansion Apartment complex in Edinburg.

He was charged with first degree murder after reportedly confessing he had killed Rita.

Vasquez said he caught his girlfriend sleeping with another man and had to kill her.

Investigators say he stabbed her 14 times.
