Hotel in Falfurrias destroyed during afternoon fire

UPDATE: We’ve confirmed that the fire in Falfurrias was located at the Holiday Inn Express, located along U.S. Highway 281. 

Authorities said that the fire sparked up around 1:25 p.m. Sunday afternoon. 

When authorities arrived on the scene, 30 visitors and employees were evacuated from the hotel, according to authorities. 

Multiple fire agencies were called out to the scene to help put out the flames. As of Sunday night, the fire has been contained.  

Authorities also said there there were no injuries or fatalities due to the fire. 

An investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the fire. 

Agencies will remain on the scene throughout the night. 

The Stripes convenience store located right next to the hotel is currently closed due to the fire. 

Several exits along Highway 281 were closed due to the fire but those have since been reopened. 


Several viewers are reporting a major fire that is occurring in Falfurrias.

Details are very limited at this time and we are working to confirm the exact location of the fire.

It’s unclear if anyone was injured in the fire or what the cause of the fire is.
