BROWNSVILLE, Texas – With doctors and nurses on the COVID-19 frontlines, truckers are also some of the workers who are working day and night during the pandemic. They transport goods that are essential to our daily lives. From produce to cleaning supplies they move it all.
With people clearing out shelves at supermarkets, the demand to transport products to such stores as H-E-B and Walmart is the highest it’s ever been.
Isacc Gomez, Transcar Express safety director says, “I would consider them the lifeline of our food supply at the moment. You know they’ve always been, it’s just not as noticeable as it is now.”
While truck drivers are bringing food to our homes. Truckers say it’s getting harder to find places to eat when so many businesses are closed. Which is why they pack up their trucks with food and supplies.
Even though truckers don’t often get breaks, they say their job is crucial during this crisis.
