Local smuggling leader sentenced

Local News

RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – A local leader of a deadly smuggling crew was handed a stiff prison sentence today.

26-year-old Osvaldo Gonzalez of Mission pled guilty to transporting undocumented immigrants. Authorities say he was the look-out in a crash that claimed the life of two immigrants back in November of 2015.

The driver of the deadly crash, where 13 undocumented immigrants were ejected, was reportedly one of several others recruited by Gonzalez.

He is also pending sentencing for another immigrant harboring offense and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
