The San Benito school district adopted a new plan to focus all sections within the district towards the same goal.
The plan is known as the Re-imagine 2021 strategic plan.
For the first time in almost 20 years the San Benito school district will have a strategic plan. The goal is to have some sort of road map for the next five years.
Superintendent Dr. Adrian Vega says, “There are 5 areas of the plan. There is curriculum instruction, finance, facilities, P-20 which is early childhood all the way to post college, and then also communication and PR.”
Over 140 people from both inside and outside the school district came together to form this plan. In a way it could be seen as the wants from the community itself. The response has been the want for consistency in both a common language and a common focus.
“It is very important for a district to have consistency. If a student starts in one campus let’s say they have to move to another campus. We want to make sure there’s a not gap in their learning. The only way you can really do that is if everybody is one the same page,” says Vega.
The first school year in the plan approaches in the upcoming weeks. The last time this school district had a plan like this was in 1998.
“I want our kids to be hugely successful while at San Benito CISD, but ultimately so they can be hugely successful in their lives and for the community,” says Vega.
Because this is a community based project, the superintendent says he will keep the community informed at least once a month.
