Local Pharmacy Unveils Drug Drop Box

Local News

A local pharmacy is joining the fight against prescription drug abuse
Autrey Pharmacy unveils a prescription drug Drop Box for safe disposal of unwanted or expired medication.
Their goal is to reduce availability of drugs that can result in addiction, intoxication and overdoses.
The box will be located inside the pharmacy located on Ruben Torres in Brownsville.

“It’s just efforts and ways we can provide to the community to properly dispose medications,” says Alexandra Ybarra – Positive Community Impact Coalition.  “Oftentimes when medications are left in the home, unwanted or expired it puts the community at risk for having visitors in the home who may take the medications.”

All submissions are sent for disposal to the Drug Enforcement Agency. We’re told participants remain anonymous. They say it’s a no-questions asked ‘disposal alternative at their local pharmacy.’
