Local massage therapist adjusting to new social distancing norms

Local News

MISSION, Texas — Massage therapists are usually hands-on and in close contact with their clients, but with social distancing one local massage therapist shares how she is following those safety guidelines.

“We have clients that will ask us, ‘Are you doing it with gloves or is it just bare hands’?” said Griselda Perez a massage therapist at Laying Hands Massage Therapy.

When deciding whether or not to get a massage, Perez is giving their clients the option to choose.

“It’s optional, it’s up to the preference of the client, if the client prefers for us to wear gloves then we will,” said Perez.

With disposable padding on the massage chairs and constant disinfecting Perez said sanitation is their number one priority, along with screening their clients before their appointments.

“It is mandatory and it is an office policy for them to wear a face mask before entering our premises or entering the office and if they have any symptoms of any fever or any headaches or symptoms of COVID-19,” said Perez.

Even with all the preventative measures Perez said some customers are still hesitant.

“We’ve had some clients that say ‘I’m going to wait a little longer’ or ‘I’ll call you when I’m ready’ and we respect and understand.”

Perez adds they always clean before and after their appointment and are working hard to ensure the safety of their clients and their staff.
