RIO GRANDE VALLEY, Texas – A federal grand jury has indicted Larry Mitchell Hopkins, the leader of the armed militia group recently patrolling the southwest border.
Hopkins faces a charge of ‘Felon in Possession of Firearms and Ammunition.’ It stems from a 2017 weapons arrest in San Juan County, New Mexico.
Hopkins was arrested back on April 20th after that video spread showing his group, “The United Constitutional Patriots.” detaining migrants in Sunland Park, New Mexico.
The group had been patrolling the area since February until they were told to leave their campsite this week.
On Monday, Hopkins was beaten inside the Dona Ana County Jail. He was treated and transferred to another jail.
Hopkins will appear in Federal court in Albuquerque on Monday.
