Last Battle of the American Civil War Trail Has New Markers

Local News

Many may not know it but one of the last battles of the Civil War happened right here in the Rio Grande Valley.

People can now find 14 new historical highway and street signs that mark the Rio Grande Valley Civil War trail throughout Brownsville. Several of them are located on the UTRGV campus and Texas Southmost College.

The new additions are all part of UTRGV’s efforts to permanently mark the observation of the last land battle of the civil war that took place at Palmito Ranch in Brownsville.
