IRS gives options for late filers

Local News

HARLINGEN, Texas – With the tax-filing deadline approaching fast, the Internal Revenue Service is reminding taxpayers who haven’t filed yet, that there are a variety of options to help them.

IRS tax help is available 24 hours a day on irs.govWhether its filing a tax return, requesting an extension or making a payment. The website can help last-minute filers on just about everything related to taxes.

Irma Trevino, IRS spokesperson, “Sometimes people cannot pay everything all the time. All the taxes that they are but they should make an effort like for example if they’re going to request an extension to file they should be for a sit-down and request an extension. They should sit down and make an estimate of good faith of the taxes.”

If you need more time to file that is a possibility as well. The easiest way to do is through the free file link on irs.gov. However, an extension of time to file is not an extension of time to pay.
