Inmate found dead in San Benito Jail cell

SAN BENITO, Texas – A San Benito man is found dead in his holding cell. The Texas Rangers are now investigating. Ernesto Alonzo Gonzalez was found unresponsive in the San Benito Jail about 2:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22. Attempts to revive him failed.

The San Benito Police Department sent out a press release saying the cause of death was an apparent suicide. Investigators also say in the statement that no foul play is suspected. Texas Rangers have taken over the case to fully investigate.
