MCALLEN, Texas – Beginning today millions of residents across the U.S. including the Rio Grande Valley will begin to receive census forums in the mail.
This morning representatives from La Union del Pueblo Entero (LUPE) were joined by U.S. Census workers. LUPE has pushing census efforts for more than a year and they want the community to be aware that today is the day. There are four ways to be counted including for the first time by phone.
Martha Sanchez, outreach coordinator, “There is no excuse if you have a phone then you can be counted. Don’t be afraid it’s only nine questions that they ask you. It goes very quickly and just make sure that everybody in your lot gets counted.”
Sanchez also adding each person not counted leaves $17,000 of federal funding to the Rio Grande Valley on the table. They want the community to make a pledge to be counted.
