Human smuggling attempt stopped at checkpoint

SARITA, Texas — Agents working at the Javier Vega, Jr. Checkpoint referred a tractor and trailer for a secondary inspection after a Border Patrol K-9 alerted officers on Friday evening.

The agency’s press release said a secondary search of the locked trailer revealed eight undocumented immigrants hidden within the produce.

Agents placed the driver along with the eight subjects under arrest and escorted them to the station for processing. The release states the smuggled subjects are from Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras.

Border Patrol processed all subjects accordingly. The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.
