House fire leaves one dead another left with serious injuries

PHARR, Texas – A house fire in Pharr claims the life of a 35-year-old man and leaves another person with seriously injured.

On Saturday, around 7:00 a.m., fire crews responded to the 800 block of north Tierra Drive. The homeowners say the second floor of the home was destroyed after a bed mattress caught fire. Jose Luis Chavez Jr. was unable to get out of his bathroom. He was pronounced dead at scene.

His sister reportedly jumped out the window and was transported to a San Antonio hospital with severe spinal injuries.
