Authorities in Starr County are investigating after a man died from gunshot wounds Thursday morning.
According to authorities, the Starr County Sherriff’s Office responded to the area of Garceno, located between Roma and Rio Grande City, in reference to shots fired just after 3:30 a.m.
A release stated deputies were informed of several vehicles leaving the area at a high speed. A grey pickup truck was then intercepted by authorities and was followed to the Starr County Hospital.
A male identified as Arturo Gomez Jr., 34, was found inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds. Gomez was treated and pronounced dead by medical staff, said the release.
Authorities say the other occupants of the pickup are cooperating with the investigation.
Police have detained a person of interest and a motive is still unknown.
The case remains under investigation.
