Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen will be travelling to the Rio Grande Valley on Thursday afternoon.
The event will take place at the U.S. Border Patrol Station in McAllen.
Nielsen is scheduled to meet with over two dozen sheriffs as part of a roundtable briefing to discuss their ongoing collaboration with DHS on immigration enforcement and border security through the 287(g) program.
Authorities said the program represents a tangible example of federal, state and local partnership to ensure that violent criminals don’t go unpunished or unnecessarily released back into communities.
Also attending the event will be ICE Acting Director Ronald D. Vitiello, U.S. Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch and Jackson County Sheriff, AJ Louderback.
