PHARR, Texas – Three PSJA ISD high school theatre troupes won a combined 12 awards on Sunday, during the 3rd Annual Palm Awards, which aims to celebrate the love of arts by recognizing the local high school theatre community across the Rio Grande Valley.
The district’s press release said there were 25 participating schools, 37 productions and thousands of Rio Grande Valley students that were judged and nominated in both musical and non-musical categories. Among the nominees were PSJA North Early College High School, PSJA Southwest ECHS and PSJA Memorial ECHS.
The special virtual event featured more than a dozen special guests to present the awards, including several PSJA Alum, such as Cristela Alonzo, David Barrera and Carlos Moreno, Jr. They also featured a handful of performances from nominees, including special numbers by PSJA Memorial ECHS, PSJA North ECHS and PSJA Southwest ECHS, said the district’s release.
