Local law enforcement is taking their tactics to deter crime to new heights.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is currently certifying six sheriff deputies and investigators for their drone pilot’s license.

“We felt that it was important to advance our technology and have this type of resource for our plans and objectives we have for the future, one of them being for search and rescue,” said Frank Medrano, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s, public information officer.

The County said the drone training aims to help improve investigations.

It’s a move the Sheriff’s office said is already making a difference.
