Hidalgo County testing voting machines ahead of March elections

Local News

EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Election Officials say it’s the most important step in preparation for early voting as voting machines were dusted off and tested.

Per state law voting machines used at poll locations must be tested for accuracy and logic. Testing proves the machines are properly adding votes as well as confirming that each candidate appears in the proper precinct. The public, as well as the media and candidates, were invited to participate in the testing.

Yvonne Ramon, Hidalgo County Elections Administrator, “They vote on the machine and then they compare making sure the selection they made is the actual selection and the number of votes that were cast on each machine. This is very important for the election itself.”

Results from the testing were signed and will be kept for the record. The machines were in test mode and will be cleared of any voting data ahead of elections.
