Hidalgo County health officials held a press conference Wednesday, during which they addressed the coronavirus.

Officials answered questions and informed on safety measures to prevent the spread of any illnesses.

At the press conference, it was confirmed that there are no cases of the coronavirus in the Valley. However, officials added that the community should be proactive.

“There are no confirmed cases in Texas. None. Many of them are no longer symptomatic. Many are no longer ill and not infectious. Over time as they heal, the threat is less and less,” said Eddie Olivarez, Hidalgo County Chief Administrative Officer.

According to officials, only the CDC can confirm if someone has the coronavirus. The center will communicate through local health departments if any testing is done. Local officials would then be informed.
