EDINBURG, Texas (KVEO) — Officials have confirmed a Hidalgo County health authority has tested positive for COVID-19.
According to a press release, Dr, Ivan Melendez learned of his result on Monday, while at the joint press conference held by the county.
Officials say Melendez joined the press conference late and left early and add he had minimal exposure to those in the room. Everyone in the room was wearing a facial covering.
Melendez is a clinician meaning that he had continued to see patients as the pandemic hit Hidalgo County. Among his daily rounds was interaction with patients who had also tested positive for COVID-19. He immediately self-isolated and is generally asymptomatic having expressed slight fatigue. He said he will continue to see patients via videoconferencing.
Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez added in the release Melendez has been a trusted advisor throughout the pandemic.
