On Wednesday June 21, 2017 at about 4:24 a.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Mi Tierra Drive in rural Weslaco, in reference to a hit and run that had just occurred.

Deputies met with the reporting party who witnessed the assault of the 25 year old female victim. The victim was allegedly struck intentionally by a motorist, later identified as 21 year old Mariah Nicole Garcia, driving a white passenger car. The victim was transported to a local hospital to receive emergency surgery for the injuries she sustained as a result of the assault, and remains hospitalized but in stable condition.

Sheriff’s Investigators met with the alleged suspect, 21 year old Mariah Nicole Garcia, whom implicated herself as being the driver of the suspected vehicle. After reviewing the evidence, Garcia was taken into custody for the offense of Aggravated Assault with Serious Bodily Injury. The possible motive is an ongoing feud between the victim and the suspect.

Mariah Nicole Garcia was taken before a Hidalgo County Justice of the Peace where she was arraigned for the charge of Aggravated Assault Causes Serious Bodily Injury, a second degree felony. Garcia was given a $50,000 cash surety bond and then committed to the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Center.
