Hidalgo County: COVID-19 safety guidelines in place at voting locations

EDINBURG, Texas (KVEO) — The Hidalgo County Elections Department is reassuring voters that safety COVID-19 guidelines have been implemented at voting sites.

According to a release, poll workers will be using masks, face shields and gloves and will be disinfecting voting areas.

Voters will be asked to place their identification on a bin for safety. Additionally, voters will also be using a disposable stylus device when voting.

“With this pandemic upon us, we are working hard to provide a safe and smooth voting experience for our voters,” said Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramón in the release. “In order for this to be accomplished, we need to work together as a community to stop the spread of COVID-19.”

Voters are encouraged to follow the safety measures below:

  • Self – screening for COVID-19 symptoms, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, muscle pain and etc.
  • Wearing facial coverings; (If a voter has forgotten their facial covering, one will be provided to the voter.)
  • Following safe and clean voting procedures by disinfecting and washing hands
  • Practicing social distancing

Election Day is July 14 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
