HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (KVEO) — Hidalgo County has made changes to the criteria for small businesses to qualify for their grant program.

The county will now allow small businesses that received the Payment Protection Program loan or other federal, state or local assistance to apply for the Hidalgo Cares Small Business Grant Program.

According to a release, funds have also increased to $5,000 and $10,000.

Other criteria includes:

  • being located in the unincorporated area of Hidalgo County. Businesses located within city limits of any city in Hidalgo County do not qualify.
  • must be able to demonstrate that they have experienced a loss of income of at least 10% due to COVID-19 since March 2020
  •  must demonstrate that they were in operations as of October 1, 2019
  • must have a total annual net income under $250,000 but no less than $10,000

The amount of help received will be determined on their annual net income.
