Hidalgo County broke ground on a drainage project as part of the 2015 Presidential Disaster Declaration that will aid residents of Precinct 4.

According to a release, the project aims to alleviated flooding and improve drainage.

Federal funding was also allocated for housing assistance to those eligible living in the Precinct 4 subdivisions.

“This is a very important project that impacts 13 subdivisions in this area that were affected by the 2015 floods,” said Commissioner Precinct 4, Ellie Torres.

Property owners affected should contact Maritsa Meza, with the Hidalgo County Urban County Program, at (956) 787-8127. For program requirements, eligibility and updates visit their webpage.

“I don’t want to see it put to the test anytime soon, but if it does, I feel confident we have come up with a solution,” added Torres.

According to a release, the project is estimated to cost $4.6 million.

The Hidalgo County Urban County Program is administering the project through the Texas General Land Office.
