The Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority and Texas Department of Transportation have begun construction on the first phase of State Highway 365.
The initial project consists of widening a section of the existing Military Highway.
“The Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority has commenced construction on phase one of segment 3 in the Hidalgo County loop,” said Ramon Navarro, a construction engineer.
The project will enhance safety on the roads — separating overweight truck traffic from passenger-only vehicles.
The nearly $20 million project is estimated to be completed August 2017. The four-lane state highway will offer more overpasses, frontage roads and a 17-mile toll road.
“This is key and instrumental into the functionality and mobility of the Valley,” Navarro said.
Drivers around the construction area are asked to be aware of their surroundings.
