The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office has released more information regarding a body that was found near Mission on Saturday.
Deputies said that on Thursday, they responded to the Mission area in reference to a welfare concern report for Fernando Garza, Jr., 22, who was last seen by family around July 23.
In a release, deputies said through the course of their investigation, that Garza had been kidnapped and shot by a man named ‘Diamond.’
The following morning, according to deputies, they were called out to a vehicle fire in the area of Mile 7 on Western Road in Mission where Garza’s 2006 maroon Dodge Durango vehicle was found abandoned and burnt.
Through their investigation, deputies said they identified ‘Diamond’ as Julio Cesar DeLeon, 25. It was also learned, according to the release, that Garza had been staying with DeLeon and his girlfriend, Edna Rivera, 28, on Marivel Ortiz Street in Mission.
Deputies said that DeLeon and Rivera told investigators they admitted to murdering Garza in an orchard north of 7 Mile Line in Mission a few days prior.
The following morning, according to the release, the body of Garza was located in an orchard south of 13 Mile Line on Iowa Road in Mission.
A Justice of the Peace pronounced Garza dead and an autopsy was ordered. The autopsy revealed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner was homicide, according to the release.
The release added that the motive was believed to be a drug robbery.
Both Edna Rivera and Julio DeLeon were arraigned on capital murder charges by terroristic threat. Rivera and DeLeon are also facing other drug related charges.
No bond was set for Rivera or DeLeon.

The body of a male found by sheriff’s deputies on Saturday morning has been identified.

In an update Sheriff Guerra provided to the media, he said that a woman had reached out to the Sheriff’s Office on Thursday to report a welfare concern regarding her son who was missing. Guerra adds that the woman had received a call from his friends saying that he had possibly been kidnapped.

Guerra also says his office received an anonymous call that the Garza’s body had been dumped in an orchard near Mission.
On Friday, deputies recovered an abandoned 2006 Dodge Durango that had been burned. Guerra confirms the vehicle found belonged to Garza.
At this time, there are two suspects in custody and, according to Guerra, both will be charged with murder as investigators work to gather evidence.
