HIDALGO COUNTY, Texas (KVEO) — Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez has released a letter sent to Elon Musk encouraging him to relocate Tesla Motors to Hidalgo County.
The letter in part reads:
I have recently read of your displeasure with authorities in California and your desire to relocate to Texas “immediately” … You, of course, are well familiar with South Texas given the presence of the SpeceX launch site at nearby Boca Chica Beach. What you may not be familiar with is the Rio Grande Valley’s and Hidalgo County’s existing relationship with automobile manufacturing and the value it may bring to Tesla Motors.
The letter also mentions the influence of maquiladoras operating on both sides of the border.
Cortez adds the Valley has a “hard-working and comparatively young labor force that could easily be trained.”
The letter ends with an invitation to Musk to visit Hidalgo County and to possibly pick out a location to build the manufacturing plants.
