Harlingen city leaders and Southwest Airlines representatives unveiled the Herb Kelleher Mural in downtown Harlingen on Friday.

Herb Keller, founder of Southwest Airlines, died in 2019.

“We’re so honored by this commemoration of a great man and his philosophy,” said Brad Hawkins, spokesperson for Southwest Airlines.

According to a release, Kelleher chose Harlingen as the airlines’ fourth destination in 1975.

“It’s awesome,” said Hawkins. “The funny thing is you can’t hear him laughing but anyone who knew him can see the smile back there he’s appreciating the people of Southwest.”
