The Harlingen Police Department asked for the public’s help Saturday in identifying and locating the driver involved in an early morning fatal hit-and-run crash.

The Harlingen Police Department asked for the public’s help Saturday in identifying and locating the driver involved in an early morning fatal hit-and-run crash.

Police say the crash occurred at about 2 a.m. on the 400 block of West Taft Avenue.

Harlingen police found a 20-year-old man lying on the roadway with critical injuries and believe he was struck by a dark-colored pickup truck traveling westbound on Taft Avenue.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Harlingen police will identify the man pending notification of next of kin.

Police say the dark-colored pickup truck may have front end damage.

The Harlingen Police Highway Enforcement Unit and Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate the crash.
