Harlingen mom offering to capture senior portraits for free

HARLINGEN, Texas – A Harlingen mom is offering to capture senior portraits for free.

April Perez, owner of Monarch Dance Studio in Harlingen calls herself a “clicking mom.”

“I carry my camera in tow wherever and I capture life’s moments,” said Perez.

Perez said she has grown in the craft of photography in the last six years and has taken what she learned to capture senior portraits for not only her son, a 2020 graduate, but for other seniors at no cost.

“I think it’s pretty cool because not a lot of people do that, they charge a lot and especially like for senior pictures and just like senior pictures in general, there’s like specific times, days and then scheduling,” said 2020 Graduate of La Feria High School, Neena Rios. “That a lot of people get booked pretty quick so it’s kind of cool how it came up all of sudden and it was just the perfect timing.”

Although senior year has been cut short because of COVID-19, Perez said she just wants to help capture one of their biggest milestones.

“Some of these seniors are going through things emotionally, they’ve been at home, they’ve been in quarantine so for most of them this is their first time out,” said Perez. “So to be able to get a special moment in their life, especially graduation has been just so rewarding.”

Perez said she has already taken about 40 senior portraits. If you’re wanting a senior portrait by Perez, you can contact her through her photography Facebook page.
