HARLINGEN, Texas – Following a May 15, Special Meeting of the City Commission Chris Boswell, accompanied by his wife, was sworn in as the duly elected Mayor.  This is the fifth time voters have selected him for the City’s top elected position.  Boswell, a practicing attorney was first elected Mayor in 2007.  Mayor Boswell defeated Miguel Angel Segura by more than 1,000 votes.

Meantime, businessman Frank Puente Jr. was sworn in as the new District 2 Commissioner.  He was accompanied by his son as he took the oath of office.  He defeated incumbent District 2 Commissioner Tudor Uhlhorn by 35 votes. Puente previously served on the City Commission from 2003-2006.

In total, more than 3900 registered voters participated in the election casting ballots for Mayor, Commissioner District 2, and Commissioner District 1 which requires a runoff election between the top two vote getters incumbent Richard Uribe and former Commissioner J.J. Gonzalez.  That election will be held on June 22, 2019, with early voting scheduled for June 10-18.
