A Harlingen man will spend the next six years behind bars in federal prison for possessing child pornography.
According to U.S. Attorney Ryan K. Patrick, Sylar McElwrath, 22, pled guilty back in February of 2018.
A release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office said that on or about July 2, 2017, authorities began an investigation of child pornography sharing which led them to McElwrath’s address in Harlingen.
Following the execution of a search warrant, a computer and other digital devices that McElwrath owned were seized.
According to the report, a forensic analysis later revealed approximately 80 images and 15 videos of child pornography.
McElwrath is currently on bond. However, he will have to voluntarily surrender to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility in the near future.
