Officer-involved shooting under investigation in Pharr, 18-year-old hospitalized

PHARR, Texas (KVEO) — Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Pharr Police Department that left an 18-year-old in the hospital.

Lieutenant Christopher Olivarez, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, confirms the shooting took place at an apartment complex on North Fir Street near Tomas Jefferson Early College High School. DPS also confirmed the age of the victim.

According to police, officers responded to a call regarding a man “behaving aggressively.”

At the scene, officers observed the 18-year-old exit the apartment while holding an object that police say they believed to be a type of riffle.

Officials with Pharr PD said preliminary investigation identified the object as a BB type gun.

Officials add they gave verbal commands and then shot at the 18-year-old in the abdomen.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he is in stable condition.

The Texas Rangers are continuing the investigation.

No other details have been released by officials.
