HARLINGEN, Texas – With hair salons reopening Friday, just what measures are cosmetologists taking to make sure staff and clients coming in are safe?
You’ll have to follow new rules at hair salons that including wearing a mask and waiting your turn outside before entering the building. It’s just one of the many requirements both cosmetology and hair salons need to follow.
Michelle Ballin is the owner of Vanity Lash, Hair and Blowout studio in the Rio Grande Valley. After several weeks, her staff stepped today, sweeping and disinfecting surfaces to prepare for the big day.
“Clean, clean, clean, it’s what we were already doing before all of this,” said Ballin as she stepped inside her hair salon after a month. “It scary because, as much as we’re excited, safety is first for us and the clients.”
To protect her employees and customers from the virus, staff will be required to wear face masks and transparent face shields to prevent as much contact as possible. There will also be mandatory social distancing.
Work stations will be 6 feet apart and they’ll be disinfected after every customer.
These are all part of the list of guidelines and rules the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation is recommending cosmetologists to follow.
“We will be screening out clients and our employees as they come in. Make sure they don’t have any fever, any chills, they haven’t been sick or around people that have been sick for the past 2 weeks,” said Mandy Nunely, Co-Owner of Bombshell Hair Studio in La Feria.
She says these new set of rules are meant to make both employees and clients feel comfortable while getting their services.
Another thing to remember is that staff will also be wearing protective gear and will be disinfecting all tools used.
