Gunshot victim recovers in hospital, suspect in custody

RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – On Saturday around 3:30 am, Rio Grande City Police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of San Diego St.

The call was in reference to a 26-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to her right arm. When officers arrived, they found out the victim had been taken to Starr County Memorial Hospital by family members.

During the investigation, detectives learned 37-year-old Jose F. Rodriguez was responsible for the woman’s injuries. Rodriguez was arrested on charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony possession of a firearm.

The victim is in stable condition and is expected to recover.
