UPDATE: 

According to the Texas Gas Service, the line damage was caused by a third-party contractor working on Dicker Road in McAllen, which was already shut down due to the road work. 

The gas is currently off, while gas service crews are on scene. The crews will remains onsite this afternoon while they make repairs to the damage line. 

The Texas Gas Service reminds the public to call “811”, at least two business days before starting a project that involves digging. 

“811” is a free call designed to keep communities safe by locating underground utility lines so that they can be avoided during excavation.

Authorities are currently evacuating residents in McAllen following reports of a gas leak. 

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the scene on Dicker Road between 23rd Street and 10th Street. 

The McAllen Fire Department is also on scene.
