Funeral Times For Army Soldier Killed In Afghanistan

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Funeral arrangements are set for a young Army soldier.

Brownsville native, Spc. Miguel Angel Villalon, 21, was killed when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in the Kandahar Province in Afghanistan, according to a release from the Department of Defense.

Visitation on Friday January 24th, is scheduled from 1PM until 10PM at the Brownsville Event Center.

On Saturday funeral services are at 10AM  at the Brownsville Event Center with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

The DOD also confirmed the death of Staff Sgt. Ian McLaughlin. Both soldiers were assigned to the 307th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This was the first combat deployments for Villalon and McLaughlin.

According to the Army Times, the deaths are the first for U.S. forces in the new year.
