STARR COUNTY, Texas (KVEO) — Funding for the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) has been suspend as of June 3.
According to officials, the Executive Board of the South Texas HIDTA said the suspension of funding would be in effect through Dec. 31, 2020.
The suspension will be revisited at that time, said authorities.
“I think it’s very important that we have a HIDTA in our county, I’ve begun talking to local officials, I expect to talk to county judge and the sheriff later this week about assisting me with regaining the funding,” said Gocha Ramirez, the incoming Starr County District Attorney.
It is unclear what the officers will do from now until January.
