Local News

A former valley priest accused of murder more than 50 years ago, now has a date with a judge and jury.

83-year-old John Feit was in an Edinburg courtroom for a hearing on when his trial will be. Both sides agreed the capital murder case will be heard in late April.

Feit is accused of killing McAllen school teacher and valley beauty queen Irene Garza in April of 1960. At the time he was a priest at a local church. Garza was last seen going to confession at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her body was found five days later. Feit was extradited from Phoenix in March 2016.
