EDINBURG, Texas – A press conference this morning called by a former Edinburg city manager, in an attempt to clear his name and level some serious allegations against a former co-worker and fiance.
Juan Guerra was arrested and charged with assault following a brief press conference. He called the press conference to clear his name. Guerra said since November his ex-fiance has made false allegations of physical and sexual assault. Their breakup culminated into an incident on December 15th where Edinburg Police were called to Guerra’s residence. Guerra says leading up to that incident he was so concerned with his ex-fiance’s emotional and childish behavior that he purchased a home surveillence system. He claims to have audio and visual recordings to prove no assault took place and has handed those recordings over to police.
Guerra says after that incident his ex-fiance then tried to extort $120,000 from a severance package he received from the City of Edinburg to not press charges. He also claims she used a friend of her’s who was an attorney and providing a list of demands to mend her heart.
Guerra says that attorney friend told him that his ex-fiance thought he would be willing to pay due to him being a public official and not wanting to be embarrassed.
Edinburg police did issue an arrest warrant for Guerra for assault. After the press conference Guerra turned himself in. Now Guerra says he will pursue charges against his ex-fiance for forgery and extortion.
In a written statement provided to the media, Guerra writes:
“I refused to be extorted. I want everyone to know that I will not be a victim of any attempts to entrap me and extort me. I did not sexually assault nor physically assault anyone. I strongly deny all accusations.”
Guerra says he believes in the justice system and is confident he will be vindicated.
